OUR FAMILY TREE

Each year my mom and I buy a few ornaments to add to our collection. Over the years I've learned that ornament shopping takes a lot of skill. Here are some rules I've picked up on over the years. (Thanks MOM ;0)!)


1.The trick to ornament shoppings is buying a select few each year. Don't go crazy and spend thousands of dollars on ornaments. You will hurt your bank account and you'll have a panic attack when you see your bill in January. 


2. Don't be afraid to splurge on a few piece that will give your tree the WOW factor. 


3. Buy your ornaments BEFORE the month of December (these are the WOW pieces that will be gone before you know it) or AFTER Christmas where you'll save over 40% on ornaments for the year to come. 


4. Don't worry if you see things that don't go with your color scheme if you find something on SALE ... you'll start building your next theme as you accumulate these pieces. 


5. Last but not least gather together with your family, divide the tasks that are entailed to getting that sucker up ... and enjoy the bonding experience with some eggnog or glass of wine!

TREES TREES & MORE TREES

Did you know the tradition of decorating an evergreen tree at Christmas started in Livonia and Germany in the 16th century? I'm so glad it did because it really gets people into the Christmas spirit and allows people like me to become preoccupied at home for an entire month until I'm sick of seeing pine needles everywhere! 

Do you have a preference when it comes to trees? 

My favorite tree for this year would definitely go to the upside down tree that hit the market a couple years back. It's definitely not your traditional tree but it is absolutely beautiful! I think trees in general in all shapes and sizes are pretty. Depending on your home and style you can find excellent trees from the supper skinny look to the more traditional Pine Tree.

A friend of mine once put different trees in each room of her house. How cute would these look in a children's playroom? 

IT'S A PINK CHRISTMAS!

OH I just love Christmas! Not only do we get to spend time with our loved ones, we get to express ourselves and the warmth in our homes through beautiful design ideas! This post is for the extra girly girls who LOVE pink. 

Pink can look just as fabulous! Enjoy the looks ... 

YELLOWWWW!

Ahhhh .... it's been a long time and I'm ashamed! Nevertheless I'm ready to gather as many cute looks as possible! 

During my holiday break a friend and I had a long drawn out discussion over yellow weddings that have a touch of black. As an artistic individual who loves to put creative looks together I'd have to say yellow weddings are quite the challenge. It's really difficult to use a bright color like yellow and not get carried away with having your wedding look tacky! And even though I'm not a big fan of using the color black in a wedding, I can understand how incorporating the color black with certain colors like yellow adds a classic look to what might turn out to be a CRAYOLA event. 

Always think "LESS IS MORE!" And if you feel like you're over doing it ... you probably are!

This napkin setting as bow adds a lot personality to the table. You can even customize it with some rhinestones depending on how glam you want to go!

 ...... a little bit of lighting always adds elegance to any room!

I wouldn't use these masculine seat covers and I would definitely add more design to the centerpiece but they have the right idea! 

 

I would possibly add some tall baroque vases or tall black opaque glass candelabras down the aisle rather than the brown blocks used in this photo. And white plastic chairs are definitely a no no! You can always add seat covers to give the chairs more warmth.
